HPV Vaccination Services in Lagos
HPV vaccination services in Lagos
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the leading cause of cervical cancer, and Nigeria has one of the highest cervical cancer rates in Africa. The HPV vaccine prevents infection with the strains of HPV most likely to cause cancer and genital warts. Getting vaccinated is the most direct step you can take to reduce your risk.
ExCare Health provides HPV vaccination for both males and females across our Lagos branches. The vaccine is available for walk-in patients during normal operating hours.
Who should get the HPV vaccine?
The vaccine is most effective when given before exposure to the virus, which is why it is typically recommended for girls and boys between the ages of 9 and 14. However, the vaccine can be given to anyone up to the age of 45 who has not previously been vaccinated.
For parents: the HPV vaccine is safe, well-studied, and recommended by the World Health Organisation as part of routine childhood immunization. It does not require any special preparation, and the side effects are typically limited to soreness at the injection site and mild headache.
For adults who missed the vaccine as children: it is not too late. If you have not been vaccinated and you are under 45, speak to our clinical team about starting the course.
What does the vaccination involve?
The HPV vaccine is given as a series of injections. For children aged 9 to 14, two doses are required, given six to twelve months apart. For anyone aged 15 and above, three doses are needed over a six-month period.
Each injection is quick and administered in the upper arm. You can resume your normal activities immediately after.
